Juvenile Psychosexual Treatment

The Balm Center offers psychosexual treatment to youth aged 18 and under. Juvenile Psychosexual Services are provided by Psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) who are Certified Sex Offender Treatment Providers (CSOTP). When services are provided by a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), they are supervised by a Psychologist.

Juvenile Psychosexual Assessment:

A Psychologist or CSOTP conducts a Juvenile Psychosexual Assessment to identify the level of recidivism risk and treatment needs. The assessment is appropriate for youth between 12 and 18 years of age. The process includes a structured clinical interview over 2 to 3 sessions, each lasting approximately two hours, and includes information collected from official records. The required information would include, but is not limited to, official law enforcement documents (if available); records of prior evaluations; prior treatment information; school behavioral/disciplinary records; involvement with social services; past hospitalizations and/or placement outside of the home. A written report will be provided within 15 days of the last interview and will include specialized risk assessment measures looking at static and dynamic variables, protective variables, and risk level. Once a report is furnished, it is valid for one year due to youth developmental changes.

Child, Adolescent, and Family Psychosexual Therapy:

The Child and Adolescent Sex Offender Treatment Program at The Balm Center is a specialized outpatient program for youth who have engaged in problematic or harmful sexual behaviors. The program provides comprehensive psychosexual evaluations, individualized therapy, family therapy, safety planning, and coordinated support with courts, probation, child welfare agencies, and other community providers when appropriate. Treatment is provided by specially trained clinicians, including psychologists and Certified Sex Offender Treatment Providers (CSOTPs), and focuses on accountability, healthy boundaries, emotional regulation, empathy, responsible decision-making, and prevention of future harmful behaviors. Family and caregiver involvement is strongly encouraged to strengthen supervision, communication, safety, and long-term behavioral change. The program also incorporates restorative justice principles to help youth understand the impact of their behavior, take meaningful responsibility, repair harm when clinically appropriate and safe, rebuild trust, and develop healthier relationships. Our goal is to promote rehabilitation, family and community safety, healthy development, and successful community reintegration.

Child, Adolescent, and Family Psychosexual Group Therapy:

The Child and Adolescent Sex Offender Treatment Program provides structured, developmentally appropriate group therapy for young people who have engaged in problematic or harmful sexual behaviors. In a trauma-informed and supportive setting, participants learn accountability, consent, and boundaries, empathy, emotional regulation, healthy relationship skills, and strategies for preventing future harm. Guided by restorative justice principles, the group promotes responsibility, repair, safety, and positive reintegration without defining youth by their behavior. Group therapy complements individualized assessment, individual and family services, and collaboration with caregivers, courts, probation, child welfare, and other involved professionals when appropriate.
